Opportunities to contribute in terms of neurodiversity in law

Neurodiversity in Law (who launched 2020) is an organisation with an important mission. Here’s what they say on their website:

  • We empower neurodiversity in the legal profession.
  • Campaigning to raise awareness, provide support and challenge the surrounding stigma.
  • To help shine a light on the untapped value, talent and potential that exists in the community.
  • Because there’s strength in all minds and ways of thinking.
  • And no mind should be left behind.

Keep an eye on their website (and the IG account) for upcoming events, but I thought it was worth highlighting the following items:

The Journal

They are launching a new publication as the ‘go-to source for neurodivergent voices in the legal profession and law schools across England and Wales’. They say it has something for everyone, whether that is being…

‘…passionate about neurodiversity and equality, curious about accessibility and advocacy, or eager to stay ahead with the latest trends and debates in technology and law…’.

They are looking to ‘foster thoughtful discourse and raise awareness about the challenges and opportunities that neurodivergent individuals face within the law, society, and the legal profession’.

Anyone considering submitting articles for this new publication should email them for more information: thejournal@neurodiversityinlaw.co.uk.

Essay Competition

To tie in with the first edition of this new publication, The Journal, the organisation is also launching its first-ever essay competition! There is a prize of £200 to the winner, as well as the fame of getting a published spot within this journal.

The competition is open to both law students and legal professionals, and asks you to write 1,500 – 3,500 words on one of the following:

1. Should the law mandate neurodivergent representation in film and television?
OR
2. Is the Criminal Bar truly accessible to neurodivergent practitioners?

Interested? Email thejournal@neurodiversityinlaw.co.uk for more details!

Contest closes 7 August 2024, with winners contacted by 31 August 2024.
