Who and what is involved in ISEL?

Known as ISEL, this research centre does exactly what you’d expect it to do : study every single corner of European Law you can think of.
Their researchers are internationally renowned in their fields, and are behind some of today’s most exciting work; shaping academic, professional, and government circles. They are partly responsible for the continuous development of EU law, politics, and economics, and provide expert insight into the new relationship between the UK and the EU.
You already know some of these researchers: they are your lecturers. Their expertise goes far beyond the classroom, and with their work at the ISEL they offer talks, events, workshops, and much more.
What happens at the ISEL events ?
European Law can often be confusing, complex, or vague; you deserve to understand and ask questions. ISEL events are the perfect occasion for you to listen, learn from and discuss with some of the best in the area. Don’t be afraid to attend, none of them bite. Their events can take various formats:
Public lectures
In the past year, the ISEL has hosted talks on global governance, balance of power in the EU given by the EU Ambassador to the United Kingdom himself, environmental EU law, the EU Space Programme, and that is only what I can fit in this word count.
Book panels
Health law, policy responses to societal changes, Brexit; these researchers have written great pieces on various topics and ISEL is dedicated to supporting and fostering research.
Student-focused workshops
ISEL hosts workshops for students to present their work, receive feedback from leading academics, and attend masterclasses.
Attending ISEL events
Most, if not all, events are free!
ISEL organises events every month and the events programme is published at the beginning of each term. You can find all the details on their Bluesky and LinkedIn accounts, as well as on the Lawbore calendar.
