
The David and Iris Freeman Essay Competition is for care-experienced aspiring lawyers (please see their website for a definition of care-experienced), and asks for essays of no more than 1000 words on the question below:
Do we need legislative change to uphold the rights of care-experienced people?
The deadline for submissions is 4pm on 31st March 2026.
Prizes
- 1st place: £500 + one week of paid work experience or a mini-pupillage
- 2nd place: £250 + one week of paid work experience or a mini-pupillage
- 3rd place: £100
The first place winner will receive one week of paid work experience or a mini pupillage with either Humphries Kerstetter or Garden Court Chambers. They will also provide financial support to cover loss of earnings, travel, subsistence and incidental expenses (Humphries Kerstetter LLP up to £400, GCC up to £350).
