Excited by Environmental law? UKELA Moot open for entries
The call for entries for the 2025 Environmental Law Moot Competitions sponsored by No5 Chambers and ENDS Report has opened! This year the Moot problem has been set by Dr Sonam Gordhan, Lecturer in Environmental Law at King’s College London and Howard Leithead, Barrister at No5 Chambers (City Law School alum) will be acting as Moot Master. This year, semi-finals and finals will be in-person at No5 Chambers on Monday 15 December 2025. UKELA are thrilled to confirm that Lord Justice Dove has kindly agreed to judge the finals.

Prizes
- All applicants will be entitled to one year’s free UKELA membership;
- A trophy for each winning team;
- £150 from No5 Chambers for each winning team; and
- 3 months free ENDS subscription for the four winners.
Count me in! What do I do to enter?
Take a look at the competition website for full details of entry, but there are two competitions: the Senior and the Junior. If you have qualified to practice as a Barrister or Solicitor, you are not eligible. You need to find yourself a partner, but they do not need to be at the same institution as you.
The Lord Slynn of Hadley Moot (Senior Competition)
Open to those who, as of 1 September 2025 have commenced a professional training course for a qualification as a barrister (BTC, BPC or BVC) or a solicitor (LPC or SQE); and those currently looking for or undertaking a pupillage, apprenticeship or a trainee or apprentice solicitor.
The Dame Frances Patterson Moot (Junior Competition)
Open to those who, as of 1 September 2025, have not yet commenced a professional training course for qualification as a barrister (BTC, BPC or BVC) or solicitor (LPC or SQE).
Teams must submit two skeleton arguments, one on behalf of the Appellants, the other the Respondents, as well as a completed entry form by email to Pippa Heggie by 23.59hrs on Monday 17 November 2025. Please go onto the competition website to download the moot problem, rules and entry form.
