Tickets available for ‘Lessons from Guantanamo Bay’
City students! There are a few in-person tickets reserved for you for Professor Clive Stafford Smith’s first lecture at Gresham College this year, on Lessons from Guantanamo Bay, as part of his lecture series on Responding to Illiberal Populism in the US and the UK. Those attending on the 18th October will also get the chance to meet the speaker in person around 4:30pm, before the lecture begins at 5:30pm. Gresham College is not far from City, just off Chancery Lane tube station.

Clive is one of the foremost criminal and human rights lawyers in the US, where he is known for his anti-death penalty work, having represented over 400 people on the Death Row and championing those who had been unlawfully detained at Guantanamo, where he achieved the release of many. In the UK, he was the founder of Reprieve and has worked with school and University students for years, through an annual summer school and summer internship opportunities, including in relation to death sentence proceedings in the US. This should be a most interesting – and inspirational – evening in his company.
