Future Lawyer Blog

If you’re keen to get involved in mooting in the future, but would really value getting some further insights before committing, then an exciting opportunity has arisen. LSE-Featherstone Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Moot is one of the most joyful places to get this – two days packed with mooting, workshops, networking and social stuff. Have a look at the message from the organisers below and give it a shot! For another insight, check out a post from a City team who competed last year.

A few words from the competition organisers – why should I volunteer?

Volunteer for the chance to see lots of moots, network and party!

We are very excited for LSE’s LGBT+ Moot to be returning for a ninth year on 6-7 March 2026 at LSE Law! The competition is dedicated to the consideration of areas of sexual orientation and gender identity law. The moot brings bring together LGBTQ+ and ally students, campaigners, practitioners and members of the judiciary for the oral rounds as well as networking events, socials and workshops.

Alongside the moot there will be workshops on a range of LGBT+ law issues and social events – all of which will be open to volunteers (meals will also be provided). Everyone is invited to attend our Welcome Reception and Closing Party as well! The event is a fun forum for students, practitioners, and activists to learn more about LGBT+ law issues and to support each other in their careers.

We have leading barristers (from Matrix, Doughty Street, Garden Court, Blackstone, 2TG, Old Square, Hardwicke… the list goes on) and solicitors (Linklaters, Dentons, Cleary…) judging.

Sounds great! What would I be doing?

The main role of volunteers is to marshal judges and mooters and help with keeping track of scores. It’s not too demanding, a great networking opportunity, and a lot of fun! No requirement to be a law student or LGBT+ etc., and no prior mooting/marshalling experience required at all.

More information can be found on the moot’s website. If you have any questions, please email Julie Schwarz or LSELGBTMoot.

Please complete the sign-up form if interested. We particularly need help on the Friday afternoon and the Saturday morning during the preliminary rounds.
