City’s Pro Bono Society have been busy bees!

City’s Pro Bono Society had a hectic week last week – unsurprising perhaps given it was Pro Bono Week. This, the 23rd annual Pro Bono Week, offered an opportunity to recognise and support the voluntary contribution made by the legal profession across the UK in giving free legal help to those in need.

City Pro Bono Society x Arnold & Porter: Insight Day 2024

First, the Society had the privilege of hosting a Pro Bono Insight Day at Arnold & Porter. The firm is renowned for its dedication to Pro Bono, and this shone through the discussions that took place.

Students were able to hear the experiences of the firm’s legal professionals through a panel which was chaired by Peter Tsangari. The panel went into depth on the importance of Pro Bono work, the challenges that can arise with complex pro bono cases such as immigration work, and how Pro Bono work can impact law applications!

Following this, there was an opportunity for Q&A and networking. It was inspiring to hear how sincerely Arnold & Porter values legal aid and students appreciated the opportunity to engage with legal professionals who had an obvious passion for pro bono. It was extremely valuable in hearing such inspirational stories about the tangible impact of Pro Bono work on communities from the panel, as well as the lawyers who joined the Society and members for networking.

Pro Bono Bake Sale

During the Social Justice Law Fair, the Pro Bono Society hosted a Bake Sale, in support of London Legal Support Trust‘s Great Legal Bake, raising over £250, which are vital funds to ensure access to justice for some of our community’s marginalised people.

Special thanks to all those who baked for the day:
