The London Legal Support Trust was started in 2003 to help with the issue of insufficient funding for those who needed to access legal advice. This situation has of course worsened considerably, accelerated by the cuts to legal aid a decade later. The advice agencies many of our students volunteer for have suffered from funding cut after funding cut, along with increased costs. This, coupled with a ballooning need for their services and issues recruiting of social welfare law specialists has meant a workforce shortage in an underfunded sector. With the support of the legal profession, LLST has raised millions of pounds to support legal advice centres in London and the South East to improve access to justice. However, the fight goes on…so come along, buy cake and get a warm feeling from helping LLST.
