Lots of exciting news on the mooting front!

At the John H Jackson Moot Court Competition in mid-February, Flora Curtis, Jessica Allen, Sam Groom and Margaux Auge went to Vienna to compete in the Regional Finals. This was City’s first try at this competition so it was a bit of an unknown – the team did brilliantly with limited time and won a prize for best written submissions for the complainant.

At the LSE-Featherstone Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Moot (23/24 February) we sent two official City teams, and many City students also competed independently (this was permitted for the first time this year). 56 teams entered the competition and were judged by practitioners from Matrix, Garden Court and Linklaters amongst many others. The competition was won by Rayan Fakhoury, City BPTC student, and his teammate Daniel from the University of Oxford. Third place was taken by Adeola Fadipe, another City BPTC student, who teamed up with two students from BPP to represent Inner Temple. Well done to those in the City teams: Colette Allen, Julia Glukhikh, Beth Hibbert, Opemipo Akisanya, Hillary Curtis, Joanna Menkiti, Narinder Shallon and Philip Matthews.

The semi-finals of the FTB Kingsland Cup were held on the 28th February 2019 and it will be an all-City final! Richard Mahal and Jessica Allen (FT BPTC) will face Joseph Leech and Frank Martin (GDL). The arrangements of the finals are yet to be announced, but it is likely to be in May/June 2019.

Last week Jack Barber and Barney McCay won the Landmark Chambers Judicial Review Moot at the RCJ, against a very strong team from the University of Cambridge. Have a look at the press briefing from Landmark for full details of Jack and Barney’s achievement!

The internal moots (GDL and City Scholars) went well and we will be moving into the semi-finals in the last week of March. You can read a list of those through on Mooting HQ (27 Feb and 6 March). The Senior Moot final is to be held at the Supreme Court on 9th May. It will be judged by The Rt Hon Lord Gill and The Hon Sir Stephen Silber.

The Cecilia Moot run by the Law Society and the Animal Law Society got off to a fantastic start. Round 2 will take place on the 2nd and 4th April, and the final on the 23rd May. Lord Justice Singh will be the judge for this final round. Upcoming moots include the European Human Rights Moot (the City team was one of 20 teams through to the finals in Strasbourg) in April, the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna (also April) and the International Migration and Refugee Law Moot in Amsterdam (May).
